SU Chancellor and President Nancy Cantor was formally installed Nov. 5, 2004. Inauguration Day involved a number of activities.

Chancellor CantorMore than 4,500 individuals-including SU students, faculty and staff; Central New York community members; and 102 delegates representing higher education institutions and professional organizations-participated in the morning Inauguration Ceremony in the Carrier Dome.

The afternoon Inauguration Symposium, "Universities and Moral Responsibility: Respecting Humanity at Home and Abroad," featured three panels of artists, journalists and social thinkers addressing the difficult issues of racism and genocide.

The inaugural celebration was made even more special by the Inauguration Art Exhibitions, featuring a collection of work by Light Work artists; an innovative exhibition by Lonnie Graham; a video installation by internationally renowned video artist Bill Viola '73; and an original sculpture, SIX CURVED WALLS (SYRACUSE), designed by acclaimed conceptual artist Sol LeWitt '49 and constructed on the hillside of Crouse College.
