Inauguration Ceremony

Nancy Cantor will be formally installed as the 11th Chancellor and President of Syracuse University in a ceremony Nov. 5 in the Carrier Dome on the SU campus. The inauguration event is part of a year of activities designed around the theme "University as Public Good: Exploring the Soul of Syracuse."

The Central New York community and all members and friends of the Syracuse University family are invited to the Carrier Dome ceremony, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will include a traditional academic procession, performances and presentations, and other celebratory activities. A picnic box lunch on the turf will follow. While the event is open to the public and does not require tickets, for planning purposes it is helpful to know the number of people planning to attend.

At 1 p.m., the inaugural symposium, "Universities and Moral Responsibility: Respecting Humanity at Home and Abroad," will begin in the Schine Student Center's Goldstein Auditorium. The symposium will focus on the topics of racism and genocide, and will examine the role of universities as power brokers in a world inextricably linked by knowledge. The symposium is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required.
